Quelloffene Geodaten im Web

Mapbender ist ein Open-Source-Werkzeug zur Darstellung von Landkarten im Web und ein Projekt der Open Source Geospatial Foundation, die die Förderung freier Geodaten auf ihre Fahnen geschrieben hat. Mapbender benötigt einen Webserver, PHP und eine Datenbank (MySQL oder PostgreSQL).

Die ganze Welt ist ein Kleeblatt

Bekanntlich liebe ich alte Landkarten und diese ist etwas ganz Besonderes: »Die Gantze Welt in ein Kleberblat« von Heinrich Bünting 1581 in dem Buch »Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae« veröffentlicht. Das Buch war damals ungeheuer populär und erschien in über 60 Auflagen.

Jerusalem liegt im Zentrum der Welt und darum sind wie bei einem Kleeblatt die Kontinte Europa, Asien und Afrika angeordnet. Das jüngst entdeckte Amerika stört ein wenig die göttliche Harmonie und wird daher verschämt am linken unteren Bildrand eingezeichnet.

Videohoster im Porträt

Nach der eher allgemeinen Einführung im ersten Teil der Mini-Serie »Das spektakuläre Comeback von viralen Videos« stellen Bertram Gugel und Karin Wehn nun im zweiten Teil ein paar ausgesuchte Video-Hoster vor. Es sind im Einzelnen YouTube, Blip.TV, Revver, Yahoo! Video, MetaCafe und Guba. Warum ausgerechnet Gugel Google Video fehlt, ist bei dem Namen eines der Autoren eigentlich unverständlich. Java und 3D-Graphik

Ich nehme an, JOGL ( ) steht für »Java OpenGL« und irgendwie klingt der Klappentext interessant: »This new reference text offers a shortcut to graphics theory and programming using JOGL, a new vehicle of 3D graphics programming in Java.
